What is the one thing that all successful diets plans have in common? From Jenny Craig to Nutri-Systems, they all preach portion control as one of the most successful ways to make a diet work and to lose weight. Instead of paying $300 a month for food that tastes like cardboard or cooking out of a microwave every night, people can create their own diet by using a digital kitchen scale.

One of the biggest problems with people’s diets is the fact that they are putting too much food on their plates. One study suggested that just switching from the bigger 12” plates down to a 9” plate can save people at least 5 pounds a year. It is nothing more than self control that needs to be exhibited.

People are so used to filling their plate until it is dripping off of the rim that they have no idea how to control their portions. These bad habits are often formed during childhood when children were encouraged to clean their plates. By learning portion control and by using something like the Salter kitchen scale, people will be able to control their food intake and keep their weight under control.

The stomach is a very funny thing. If it becomes full, it expands and creates more room. Over time, it grows because it is used to that amount of food that is being consumed. Oddly enough, using a digital kitchen scale can help control this process because people will be eating controlled portions and their stomach will eventually compensate and shrink because of the smaller amounts of food being ingested.

If people can show any self control at all, they should get a digital kitchen scale and pre-measure all of their meals. Now they will have a perfect amount of food to feel satisfied without becoming too full. The secret to a healthy life does not lie with some miracle diet, it lies within portion control.
